Welcome to the East
Warren Community Market! We may be new but we have
deep roots, in
this historic building and in the long tradition of
Vermont country markets.
The place almost on your doorstep to stop by for milk, eggs,
toilet paper, cold beer, and tonight’s dinner. The kind of
market where you’re almost
certain to run into your
neighbors to catch up on the local news. That offers
an open door in the community where the kids buy ice cream, the
commuter finds early morning coffee and muffins, the local paper
and the New York Times, and the tourist gets friendly directions
and a sudden desire to move to Warren. We may come out of
Vermont’s past but we’re also
working towards a
sustainable future; selling fresh, locally grown
produce and meats and a selection of organic products. We’re
small but we serve the
diverse needs of our customers – we welcome special
orders, quantity purchases, and suggestions for new products. We
sell what you need. We’re
your community market. |
CURRENT NEWS
The Market is OPEN!!!
Each day during
opening week more and more products are showing up on the
shelves! Be sure to stop in and say hi. If you are
not already a member, now is a great time to join (members have
already been emailed about an exclusive member-only offer for
purchasing whole lambs). If you are a member, why not
start a prepay account - that way when you shop at the market
you don't have to worry about having cash on hand and it will
really help the market!
We thank each
and every member for your support and patience as we move
forward to make the East Warren Community Market a reality. Don't forget to
mention the store and membership to your friends and neighbors
as each membership is important to our successful opening. |
What is the East Warren Community Market All
About?
The East Warren
Community Market has been incorporated as a consumer Coop, to
serve the public interest of it’s members and the Warren
community by providing a convenient local outlet for basic
groceries. Operating out of the East Warren Schoolhouse with
facilities leased from the non–profit Rootswork, the Coop’s
principal mission is to serve it’s members by providing a
convenient year round market offering when possible, a broad
selection of sustainably, grown, local, and/or organic goods. We
plan to be a full spectrum food resource for the community,
responding to requests, and making special orders available. We
anticipate establishing alliances with local farmers and
producers, combining their high quality products with a
selection of grocery staples available through local and
regional distributors.
We believe that
the time is right for the Coop. As gas and food prices rise, as
industrial food becomes less safe to eat, and as our own
sensibilities change to embrace sustainably and/or locally
produced food, having a local market in our immediate community
makes sense. The Warren Selectboard has recently expressed it’s
support of the 1st floor of the East Warren Schoolhouse being
used as a community grocery store.
